My Experience Sponsoring An AR Blog Post On Facebook

Facebook's latest money grab caught my attention. For a small fee, users may "sponsor" a post on the platform. What does this mean? For a 7 dollar fee, the sponsored post stays near the top of your friend's news feed. So I bit. Let's see what I received in return for a 7 buck credit card charge...

According to the kind folks at Facebook my post received 10 times as many views due to the sponsorship! Good thing I sponsored this market report. So time to up the limit on the credit card and "turbo charge" every post, right? Not so fast...Let's see how my post REALLY performed.

I create a short URL and ONLY post it to Facebook. This way I can keep up with how many of my Facebook friends are viewing my post. Guess which one was sponsored? Yep, the one at the top. For 7 bucks my post was read by half the normal Facebook audience.

My thoughts

Consumers are starting to catch on to sponsored links. Want to run off a consumer? Make them think they are paying for something (in this case reading what amounts to a commercial). People love social media, but they expect it to be free and not loaded with commercials. I'm going to pass on sponsoring my future Facebook posts. Keep the information relevant (and perhaps even entertaining) and the consumers will come to you!
