Curb appeal

Why do we real estate agents always go on and on about curb appeal? What is this anyway? It is simply the look and feel one gets when looking at your home from the street. We are not talking specifically about whether or not there is actually a curb in front of your home. No. We are looking at the yard and the front of your home.

What got me thinking about this was my neighbor across the street. I have been watching him from my upstairs office put out fresh new mulch around all the beautiful plants in his front yard. It is really looking good. So good in fact that he is making the rest of us on the street look bad!

Why would this be important to a would be buyer? The first impression of your home is the site of it as you pull up. The driveway, front yard and front of the home. If these areas are all well taken care of, this first impression will linger with the would be buyers. Remember, it will also be the last thing they see of your home as they pull away. This good first impression will set the expectations for your buyer, and you want it to be good.

So, if your home is on the market or soon will be, refresh the mulch in the yard, make sure the grass is cut, pick up any litter, and make sure your home has its best face forward.
