Do you know the best ways to title your blog posts?

Titling blog posts depends on your goal. For example, if you want to appear high on Google’s search results for your area, which of these would suit your goal best?

A.    Lovely condo for sale!

B.    2 bedroom Condo in Bloomfield – now only $140,000! 

A is a great choice of titles for the detail sheet that you leave in the condo for potential buyers to take home – they’ve already been to the home, and the detail sheet will help remind them of the home in a positive way. But B would be the best choice for search engines because potential buyers may search ‘2 bedroom condo’ and ‘Bloomfield,’ and your post will come up high on the search results. “Lovely condo for sale” isn’t a likely search phrase.

 

If you’re interested in capturing lots of comments and possibly that elusive feature, you would use a different technique to title your post. Which of these titles is most likely to get comments and feaured?

A.      Just listed - 3 BR 2 bath Ranch in Union

B.      I can't believe I got that listing!

 

A is fine for search engines – potential clients searching for “3BR 2 bath” and “Union” will find your post. B is much more attractive to Active Rain members. Members are more likely to open posts with  intriguing or eye catching titles. “How did I ever get this listing?” is better than “Just Listed.”
